Where are the leaders today?
I believe one of the greatest and one of the saddest inventions of all time is the internet. We feel that by posting a blog, or making a youtube video will help us make a lasting impact, which in ways it does, but there must be a reason why presidential candidates go from place to place for speeches in person and don't just use the internet or tv to deliver their messages.
Amazingly with a billion different sources for information we as a whole are more confused than ever. Back in the day you didn't have all these sources yet people seemed to believe more. I believe a piece of this is fear. Just take a look on youtube, spend about 30 minutes there looking at conspiracy theories and what not and I am positive you will at least feel some kind of fear of what the future holds.
So where have all our leaders gone? Looking back it seems many times that a leader would come from among the people, not from among congress or presidential status (though of course there are those presidents who did do great things)
But who had greater impact during Martin Luther King Jr.'s campaign? Was it him or the President? Yes the president had some to do with it but his work was more like the support of setting up a stage for the real show.
Why won't anyone stand up? Probably because we all have fears, America has been far to good to us, it's like the witch in the candy cottage fattening up Hansel and Gretel before consuming them. We fear far more than anyone before us because we have far more to lose. I can be the first to stand that I fear losing my life and everything I have, and when I went to the military my mother feared for me greatly, when I went to live in my vehicle at one point she insisted that I stay because she feared I was not ready.
Fear is the driving point, fear is what keeps us buckled into the roller coaster, we fear things as small as a little bit of criticism from friends or others, we have people who suicide over internet verbal abuse, we as a people hate pain, we need pills for everything and we can't handle losing (Yay! Everybody gets a trophy!) Now people don't do things because they may fail, all successful people fail over and over and over again, but that doesn't matter.
So why do we have no 'heroes' of today, because people are scared and no one has yet got to the point where they feel they should speak out. Right now we are all acting like (and I do include myself into this equation) the superheroes of comic books, we want to save the world but we don't want to take the responsibility of our actions. (as in many of the people who made a lasting impact on our nation have been assassinated) Or some just want to tear others down so they can feel their world is bigger than it really is.
It is sad the state we have found ourselves in. With opportunity booming (yes, I do believe we still have more opportunity due to the internet and other things) we hide in fear of tomorrow, what will tomorrow bring? Why do we have to wait for tomorrow to bring us anything? Why not create tomorrow.
You can't control the government, you can't decide what they will or will not do and to worry about such things is a waste of time and energy. Those who hide behind their computer screens and give conspiracy theories may have a point, but how can it ever be realized as it might should if they hide.
There is hope for the future, I believe it may start with a presidential election, but that is only a small fraction of what needs to happen and change.
As much as I like Batman, I would have to agree that his father was the real hero.

I have a friend on here who wrote amazing posts for a long time and then finally started running for office himself. No, not for President but within his district on the local level. I admire him more than just about anyone else on Xanga. He help runs an organization now that works to helping other average Americans get their foot in the door with politics which I think is awesome. I'd like to do that myself.
However, I think one of the things most people fear is having the media butcher their reputation. Look at what they did to Joe the Plumber. They illegally obtained certain information about him and they basically tried to do a complete character assassination on him. People are afraid of that because they could lose their job or the ability to get a job because of a ruined rep. Hell, I'm afraid of that. Especially in an economy like ours. I haven't always had perfect grades. I never always got along with every single person I knew. I've gone through my fair share of drama. Sure, people I talk to on here and trust know these things about me but in the hands of the media bent on twisting and trying to make me look like a crazy horrible person to strangers that don't know me...it would be devastating.
"Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods? Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds? Isn't there a white night upon a fiery steed? It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet............
"I NEED A HERO!"
Okay, I was just reminded of an old song that I am old enough to remember when it was new. I think a big problem today is political correctness. You can not take a stand for anything and still be entirely politically correct. Because it is impossible to please all of the people all the time. There comes a point when one has to say, am I going to worry about what everybody thinks, or what I know?
Well said sir. Fear is the thing that holds normal men from being amazing. Our country used to be full of amazing men, and I am sure it still is. But as you said, there is so much fear.
I think the biggest negativity I see on the internet from people stemms from fear and that is cynicism. I think even if we were to be in the midst of a true hero, we would dismiss him/her because we fear being taken advantage of.
I have not lost hope for our nation. We are on the teeter totter right now. If we have an awakening to our roots then we will experience another golden age, but not grasping it now will lead us to destruction. Yes, we must create tomorrow.
I still do not hold much faith in our current two party system, but there are some free thinkers that want to put the power back into the American people's hands. I have been observing Ron Paul as of late and I have been impressed with his stances. I don't agree with everything he says but something about him intrigues me. I would be interested to know what you think about him.
cool site
@firetyger - I think your friend is doing an awesome thing, many of those in the political world seem to be extremely disconnected with the people. Congress voting themselves raises in times of crisis while trying to cut military pay to save money. How does this make any sense? America needs people to step up and fix it, and those people I don't think are going to come from the political 'leaders' today.
@mtngirlsouth - Haha, great song. I agree with you, and it is hard for them to stand up there and be firm and direct in what they may actually believe, so instead we get wishy washy 'leaders' I like Herman Cain because he is direct and doesn't back down about something just because of all the buzz or people may feel he is 'inexperienced' look what 'experienced' people are doing to our country. Does he really have a chance? I don't know.
@Yoru_Kendo - (This is all from just some clips from youtube and what I've seen, so don't be to harsh on my assessment :))
To be honest the first time I saw Ron Paul I thought the guy was crazy and looked crazy, but after first impression he seems like a good candidate.
I am very impressed that Ron Paul is not allowing his kids to take government loans and he doesn't take medicare or medicaid even though he could, if this holds true and he does what he says he wants to do I believe he will be great as President. From 2010 to 2011 he has found a lot of supporters and probably for good reason, he can think on his feet and he wants complete change, which I believe many American's want as well, I mean, obviously what we are doing right now isn't really working very well.
Hope this gave a decent idea of what little thoughts I could provide :)
@Whitetigerscream - Thanks :)
@firetyger - people on xanga love to talk, (people in general) and do nothing. The Martin Luther King Memorial was just unveiled. 15 years of dedicated work by one man. This beats any mindless drivel spewed by xangans or any other politician any day.
Well said!
I think there's far more fear in watching t/v, and listening to politicans(presidential or otherwise), then in watching videos about "conspiracy theories". Alex Jones does market fear, but that's no surprise because he really isn't any different then the t/v. He is his own station, you could say. On the other hand, there are places of discussion that go beyond fear, but can still acknowledge the criminality within our system and the impact it's having on the present and the future. You, yourself, must acknowledge some type of fault-line in society to make your point about a need for leadership. So it's key to separate the idea of questioning an event with that of promoting fear through it.
Also, your point becomes self defeating if you are encouraging people to stand up and be leaders, but lay down to the government and just accept it's power over us. No government should control the people it belongs to, and if we bestowed leadership in each of ourselves over our lives, they wouldn't. Then the only fear that would remain would be their fear of us.
@jaydedheart - I think you missed the point, but I do agree, if people were to take control of their own lives then the government would have no hold, the reason why it has hold is because we as a whole are use to feeding off the 'fat of the land'.
Give a kid ice cream. let them taste it and then take it away, the kid is probably going to be crushed. If the kid wants that ice cream bad enough he'll do whatever you ask "Be quiet or no ice cream for you!" If the kid wants it they'll shut up, if they don't really care they'll continue to do as they please.
Where we are as a society is people dependent on the government, many people couldn't make it without food stamps, or a job, or... and so when the government says jump they say 'how high'
Yes, this would be solved if people were to understand how to be independent but few do and many play the victim. The reason I said we can't control the government and we shouldn't stress over it is because we can't and to stress over something you can't control is useless, so again you are correct, if we take control of ourselves we in turn do control the government.
And thank you for pointing this out, I definitely don't want to be spreading the idea that we should be just accepting the governments hold, my point is we should not fear the government because of it's hold, why should we give it our minds as well?
Most of you guys believe in things, which I find interesting. By keeping silent, you keep your world protected and don't realize it. You aren't exposed to the thrashing of masses, to the gibberish of absolutes. People always vie to their deaths and your death. What happens when you truly voice yourself is that everything you stand for gets ripped apart because nothing is really. Everything that made you is a delusion, and you'll learn this. It all serves a power agenda that goes against your very being--and always has. You are only a part in a play. When you aren't playing, you are a clown to the audience. They don't see you. You don't exist.
I wish I would have been quiet and still believed in things, but I don't have fear and only desperation, so I jumped, and I lost everything, not that I care because nothing has meaning to me, but I think the delusion of the maya would have entertained me more than the droll of psychotronic warfare.
When someone has nothing to lose such as myself, it's off with their heads. Most of my life has been motivated by what I have to lose...
I do not serve America. I laugh in her face. She has not been good to me, so I will not be good to her.
I want out of here.
The government destroyed my mind when I spoke out. They watched as I clung to my values, which they quickly thrashed to nothing, and they laughed in my face as I tried to pull myself out of the simple hole they placed me in. Why are you crying? It's so easy to succeed. And I just look at them with amazement. I don't even recognize the word "introduce" because my words are to stand for nothing.
This is inhumane to do to a youth. America is full of fat pigs that don't do anything. They feed off of each other.
I wrote a post after this after the government destroyed my mind. It's like, why can't we be mindless servants? Why are only the "angels' allowed to be good?
The reason I rebelled was simple: I didn't have any food. They stole everything from me. The government did not provide a path for my success, so I got crabby. Then, to make matters worse, they let all the castes descend upon me and incite me.
Can you say rage?
I will never do anything for them, for they have betrayed me.
I will hurt them.
@unboxurself - You're welcome, thanks for the further explanation. I like your ice cream analogy, deserves a post of it's own.
